Big settlement for amputee motorcyclist

Big settlement for amputee motorcyclist

Redlich's Work Injury Lawyers recently settled a TAC claim for a client who was injured on a motorcycle while travelling along a busy intersection in St Kilda. He suffered very considerable injuries including closed head injury, crushed left foot , multiple leg fractures and dislocations, fractured right shoulder blade, bleeding into chest cavity, fractured ribs and a broken nose.

The injuries to his left foot eventually resulted in amputation of his foot and skin grafts. He was fitted with a prosthesis and had considerable trouble in adjusting to his day to day activities.

He also experienced difficulties with his concentration and memory as a result of his head injuries. This meant he unfortunately could no longer continue in his employment in the finance industry, where he was a well known and respected figure.

As part of our investigations for the case, we undertook significant research into the road conditions and traffic signal operations, engaged experts in accident reconstruction, and liaised with members of Victoria Police and VicRoads, as well as witnesses to the accident.

Redlich's Work Injury Lawyers requested compensation for our client for both pain and suffering, as well as loss of earnings compensation given his considerably reduced earning capacity. At mediation, we asked that our client receive the maximum amount of compensation allowed under the transport accident legislation. After lengthy discussions, the TAC agreed to pay a seven figure sum, nearing the statutory maximum amount of $1.6 million.

It was a great outcome for our client, who was very satisfied with the result of his case.
