Can Kim Kardashian be my personal injury lawyer?

Can Kim Kardashian be my personal injury lawyer?

You may have heard recently that Kim Kardashian is becoming a lawyer but is not required to attend University or undertake a year of additional training, being 'practical legal training'.

So, does this mean Kim K could be your lawyer? And is this the type of training that personal injury lawyers undergo in Victoria?

The short answer is no!

At Redlich's Work Injury Lawyers, all of our lawyers have undertaken a Law degree of between three and five years duration depending on whether they had already completed an undergraduate degree. Once the formal university training is complete, our lawyers have further completed a Graduate year where they worked in a law firm obtaining practical experience. At the conclusion of the Graduate year, our lawyers have to be formally admitted to practice in the Supreme Court subject to proving they are a fit and proper person.

On top of all of that, many of our lawyers are Accredited Specialists meaning they have undertaken further study with the Law Institute or have a Masters of Laws which can take between one and three years to complete.

Ms Kardashian does not require a law degree to be admitted to practice as a lawyer in California; and California is one of the few states in the United States where this is possible. She can become a lawyer by being a law reader in a law firm for four years. This is essentially the same as an apprenticeship.

In Victoria, a Kim Kardashian style apprenticeship is not an option if you want to become a lawyer.

If you work with a Redlich's lawyer, you will have the confidence that you are working with someone who has been put through a rigorous academic process, in-firm training and often further study with the Law Institute of Victoria, putting them at the top of their game. We expect the best of our lawyers, so we can give you the best service possible.
