New laws will change the way people injured in road accidents are examined by experts doctors from 1 July 2014.
If a person suffers a permanent injury in a road accident, they can receive a lump sum payment. The amount is based on the assessments of doctors skilled in the requirements of the TAC law.
Previously, injured people could be examined by doctors chosen by their solicitors and then by a TAC doctor. This should now stop.
The new laws require appointments be arranged jointly between the TAC and the injured person's lawyer . Failure to tell the TAC will mean the TAC won't pay for the doctor's report.
The new law does not affect reports from doctors and specialists who have treated the injured person, including GPs, surgeons, psychiatrists and physiotherapists.
