One meter cycling law recommended

One meter cycling law recommended

A Victorian Parliamentary Committee has recommended a one meter cyclist passing law for Victoria.

Michael Lombard welcomed the decision.

“Too many cyclists are injured and killed on our road,” Mr Lombard said, “and this is one way of trying to reduce that number. Approximately 1,300 cyclists per year suffer injuries on the road.”

A 1.5 meter buffer will apply when car speeds reach 60km/h or above.

“Suggestions that the new law will create more ‘head-on’ collisions are ridiculous,” according to Mr Lombard. “Other States have this law and it has only made their roads safer.”
